politics and economy

hey, are we all watching the presidential debate? what do you all think about our two nominees? who impresses you tonight? obama appears to be the better debater, but i'm trying not to be swayed wholey by debating skill. i'm trying to listen to what these guys actually say. at first they weren't saying too much beyond their standard sound bytes, but now they've kind of gotten going. john just said,"i know that spending can be brought under control because i have fought against increased spending for my entire career". is that a logical statement? i'm not sure. well, i'm interested in what you guys think about these two and their campaigns and ideas and also about the financial crisis. are you all excited about paying 700 billion dollars to bailout these banks? i don't know what to think.
oh, and just a reminder, i need your checks for $143.00 to pay the taxes on tara. my box number is 591 and the zip code is still 84513.

I have positive thoughts and not so positive thoughts about both of them. I missed the debates because I was socializing with my family from Kansas. I think the debates are a very important part of the election process. I know the candidates have been vetted and tutored but I think some essence of their true selves will come through and then we can more truly judge who to vote for. I've always thought that McCain stood for integrity and would always be true to his word and Ive been a little disappointed in him. I think selecting Sarah Palin was a brilliant tactic campaignwise, but I'm not sure I want to depend upon her if John were to have something drastic happen to him. And Obama seems so smooth and slick. I want something a little more human from him. He seems trained and plastic. I don't think that either one of them can live up to the campaign rhetoric. It's like they have to sell their souls to the devil to become President. They say and do anything to get a vote, but I want leadership, not just words that appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Well, Scarlett, you already have my $. I know who I'm voting for but I have watched the forums and last night I watched the debate twice. i recorded it for Alan. I wanted to hear what Obama would say about the economy and foreign policy that I could relate to. Nothing! I don't agree with this bailout. Every senator that I have heard talking about this situation say they warned us about this imminent disaster. Barak said it and so did John McCain. Well, if it was so scarey to them, why weren't they yelling about it? when the banking committee met clear back in 2005 to discuss this and vote on whether to curb Fannie May and Freddy Mac the dems all voted against curbing this behavior and the republicans voted for it.I'm so disappointed in the republican leaders who should have raised a cry of warning to those of us who are going to pay for this disaster. I feel like the republicans in congress have really let us down by not being the finanacial watchdogs they should be. And now we all have to pay. I have seen setbacks in the market in '87 and the late 90's and now this. It's a financial nightmare. I have had the feeling through this summer that I should be more diligent in saving and storing and being much more frugal. We have become a society of consumers - like pigs at the slop trough we go through everything so easily and count on there always being more at Wal-Mart or Costco for us to buy buy buy. Well, I'm tightening my belt, because I don't see this economy getting better before it gets worse. I believe that. I hope no one had stocks and bonds with any of the finanacial institutions that failed this week. And I hope all your 401Ks are safe. Keep watching those debates. I can hope that Sarah Palin will smear Joe Biden, but I don't expect it. Joe Biden is too funny. I loved when he said "Stand up, Chuck, Let 'em see ya." Was that the funniest or what? Poor Chuck! Poor Joe! I'll be glad when it is all over and done in November.

The check is in the mail. It was online checking so don't throw anything away from Chase Bank like I almost did when you paid me. I am trying to not think too much about politics although it is everywhere and I can't catch a break from it. And the economy, don't get me started. I hate to even look at my mutual funds or 401K. I guess I am invested in both of those for the long haul and so I am hoping for better things. I just keep on thinking that I am glad that I am in a good situation and that I pay my tithing.
