we went to price on mom's birthday and i found some amaryllis bulbs. i chose three different ones and planted them when we got home. one came out of the box all bent and white. it looked deformed. dennis asked me if i had checked inside the box before i bought them. he is a checker. he will spend lots of time checking and comparing items and their packing before he buys. i rarely do this because i don't notice the minute differences he is able to perceive.
i think it all stems from me being more of an optimist than he is. i usually expect things will turn out, what we buy is what is shown on the package and no one is trying to pull one over on us.
anyway, i felt kind of bad about the amaryllis, but not completely hopeless. i put it on the window sill with the others and turned it so it bent away from the window. and things turned out just the way i hoped. the little bulb was drawn to the light and within about a week it was straight and green.
now look at it. it is the big one on the right. i'm glad that december is also a time of blossoming.
i think dennis should be thankful i'm not the sort of person who checks inside the box. and, yes, it's probably good that he's the sort who does.
